The inferior will always bow to the superior. In the Bible, the greater blesses the lesser. The lesser can never bless the greater. Similarly, the lesser cannot curse the greater. Therefore, when there are  competing voices from competing altars, the superior altar takes over. Balak said  to Balaam, "Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people..." (Numbers 22:6)

Balaam was standing at the altar of Baal, he was not a priest unto the Most High God, but when Balak sent men to Balaam to Help him curse Israel, God commanded him not to. "And God said unto Balaam, Thous shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed." (Numbers 22:12)

What do you think happened? A superior altar took over and God shut the voice of the evil altar. Evil altars work when people sacrifice on them and make enchantments. What is enchantment? "Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel..." (Numbers 22:23).
Enchantments are words. What Balaam meant was that no word could be spoken against Jacob because a superior voice had silenced the inferior. When you rely on the superior altar of God,no evil word spoke against you will have power over you. They may speak it but it will not bite you.
